Soul Kitchen

25 years SOUL KITCHEN band

In 1995 the bassist Stefan Köhl and the keyboardist / pianist Oliver Ringleb decided to found a new Munich soul band together. The two guys from
Munich - Harlaching already knew each other from their teaching at the music school Ohrwurm and played together in another Munich soul formation for 2 years. They started looking for musicians in the Munich scene and held extensive castings. The original cast includes the founders Stefan Köhl (bass) and Oliver Ringleb (keyboard), Thorsten Skringer (saxophone), Christian Schwarzbach (guitar), Wolfgang Vetter (trumpet) and Jan
Zelinka (drums), who will leave the band after the anniversary concert after 25 years in order to take a shorter career. Tragically, the first trombone player Roberto Mandruzzato died unexpectedly in
2005. Hans-Heiner Bettinger has been playing the trombone for 14 years. The singers changed more often over the years, but with John Garner & Donniele Graves, both from the United States, the band has a highly professional and reliable vocal top for years now.
SOUL KITCHEN crew also includes sound engineer Daniel Zweig and stage technician Max Walch, also sound engineer. The two have optimized the technical sequence of the stage show to such an extent that SOUL KITCHEN usually does not need a sound check, which saves the organizers of the gala events and the band a lot of time.
The musical concept was the same from the beginning until today: they give well-known songs from the soul / funk, rock & pop era their very own sound. At a time when many bands were trying to reproduce the hits of the great role models as true to the original as possible, the SOUL KITCHEN band did the opposite. Cheeky well-known songs were rearranged, brass movements were written in pieces that have not existed before and a lot of space was left for soloists. The band's recipe for success is the mix of old soul & funk hits, for example from Kool & The Gang, Aretha Franklin and current chart hits from
artists like Bruno Mars, Adele etc., with whom the young, renewable audience is also picked up. The SOUL KITCHEN band has become a cult with its way of interpreting well-known songs from the Soul & Funk era. Fans from all over Europe are now coming to their public concerts to see and
to watch the sweaty show of these 9 professional musicians.
Up to today, the band has played over 1,000 concerts worldwide. Highlights included a large China tour in 1996 with a total of approx. 100,000 spectators, a concert in the
Stone desert of Morocco, the first Millionair Fair in Moscow in front of 5000 enthusiastic Russians, appearances on the MS Germany, the 20th anniversary of the band in the sold out Circus Krone, the Engel & Völkers Polo Cup in Mallorca, in 2019 on the Woodstock of brass music in front of 18,000 spectators ... and many more.
The goal from the early days of becoming one of the most successful party bands in Europe has been achieved. The joy of playing has remained to this day and is always the
100% real desire to make music together. Every concert is always a new challenge to make the audience dance. After the appearance of great world stars like Christina Aguilera, Brian Ferry, the Scorpions, Gloria Gaynor, the Backstreet Boys, the Weather Girls and many more entering the stage and then creating an exuberant party atmosphere requires the band's great collective self-confidence. The nine alpha animals master this with flying colors and the necessary ego. And when the entire band of Christina Aguilera, including dancers and choreographers, stands in front of the SOUL KITCHEN stage and celebrates the band , you have done everything right and are on par with your colleagues.
The SOUL KITCHEN band received an environmental award for their ecological travel. Whenever possible, the musicians take the train and leave the cars at home. In 2019, the band saved 8.1 tons of CO2.
For some years now, the band has been working closely with the well-known Munich artist and music manager Anja Lukaseder, who successfully took over the booking of the nine professional musicians. The agency of Willi Streb is exclusively responsible for Austria.
Eight CDs have been released so far, six of which are currently still available.
On Saturday, March 14th, 2020 (start: 8:00 p.m.), the Soulkitchen Band celebrates its 25th anniversary with a concert in the Old Congress Hall in Munich. Tickets
are already available at all known locations and on the band's homepage www.soulkitchen.de.
The band was and is always proud to represent their hometown Munich all over the world. The SOUL KITCHEN band stands for a good and positive mood
on stage, for cosmopolitanism and tolerance and is strictly against any form of racism and discrimination.
